I Wanna Make Love In The Sub(way)

First off, I want to apologize for there being no blog post yesterday, everyone at TYA is really busy now that OUR NEW LINE HAS DROPPED. Check out Big Cartel for our stock and if you want to make pre-orders. As always, e-mail us at thousandyearsltd@gmail.com if you have any questions.

But enough about business, I want to talk about public transit. I am your typical poor student with no car, so I almost always have to take public transit if I want to go anywhere. I also don’t have an iPod, so commuting is BORING. I could probably get a book but I always forget to bring one. Anyway, the point is, and I’m sure anyone who has every commuted will agree, it’s not that fun to just sit around doing nothing for half an hour.

That is unless, you try to pick up girls on the subway.

Once you get the hat and suit, it's really just a waiting game

Inaugural Fresh Prince Friday!

This blog article represents the first official installment of the Fresh Prince Friday series that we are hosting every Friday until I run out of Fresh Prince episodes completely. To keep the content fresh, I’ll be analyzing the various outfits of one episode in each post, so bookmark this blog, subscribe via email, and comment on what you think works or doesn’t work.

Online store is up and Fall 2011 Collection has DROPPED!

This is just a quick post for all of you blog followers that haven’t already heard. The Thousand Years Apparel Online Store is officially up and running, and all the items are up for Pre-Order. How that works is that you basically pay for the item in advance via credit card, debit, or PayPal to guarantee that you will receive what you ordered, instead of leaving it up to chance that we would have your size/design in stock. This streamlines everything and makes it easier on both you and us, given that we can actually put in the orders according to the volume of pre-orders we get, plus stock.

Click on the image to visit our store!

Some of you may be wondering why we upped our prices this time around, and it’s a simple matter of making everything more premium for you to wear. That means every item we sell has our labels hand-sewn on it, including a unique loop label for accessorizing that you’ll see in the lookbook (coming in August). This also means premium originality, like the hand-sewn button on the Painter’s Snapback, and free stuff with every order, like stickers and pins. Continue reading

Inaugural Woman Wednesday: Poptimism

It’s Abi here! I’ll be blogging every Wednesday, and, as I’m the only woman in TYA, they shall now be known as Woman Wednesdays, and will cater to a slightly girlier sensibility. [Update: This was a horrible description of what I intend for this column. Look to the comment section for further explanation.]

First stop, pop music. I am a shameless fan of pop music. You may judge me, but the most-played artists on my iPod right now are these Fab 4:

I used to be embarrassed about how much I enjoyed these rather commercial artists. Indeed there was once a time when you’d find me trying to hide my love for this kind of bubblegum pop. Like, “Oh I know it’s not ‘good’ music, but it’s so catchy!” or, “It’s my guilty pleasure!” or, “Well, I downloaded the songs so it’s not like I’m paying for the stuff.”

Those dark days are over.

I love pop, and I’m not afraid to show it! In fact, I’ll admit that I own the most recent albums of ALL 4 of these artists. Yep that’s right, I bought Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0, and the other 3 albums as well. And my world is now filled with 100x more rainbows, cotton candy, and sunshine.  (N.B. You really should buy music legally; it’s just the right thing to do.)

“Nerd Culture”

I was doing some random web-surfing when I came across this:

As the title obviously implies, it’s a bunch of pictures of attractive women dressed up at Comic Con 2011, which finished just a couple days ago. They’re all scantily clad females, so for equality’s sake, here is Joseph Gordon-Levitt:

Wait... that's not attractive... is it?

Anyway, the point I wanted to make with the Comic Con photos is that “nerd culture” is getting cooler and cooler; there were some very good looking ladies in there. I don’t know how strict of a definition “nerdy” is, but what I mean is a quality that used to be considered lame because it was associated with a lack of athleticism and social skills.

Nerdy guys and girls have had a pretty bad rep of being skinny, pale, awkward and covered with zits, but somewhere in the last 20 years, the word “nerd” became a teasing, yet almost endearing label. I don’t know exactly what caused and has perpetuated it, but I want to examine a definite influence in the movement:

Music Monday

What’s good music fans?

If there’s one thing we at Thousand Years simply can’t get enough of, it’s a regular supply of the freshest music around. We like to kick back to some old school jams, and go ham to some new club bangers. Our music relaxes us, excites us, inspires us, and perfectly describe our moods.

For our first Music Monday, I’ve got some nice chill tracks for you guys to go along with the weather we’ve been having. I’m not sure if any of you heard last night’s thunder storm, but I definitely did, and I’m definitely enjoying the calm, relaxing atmosphere that’s followed.

Without further ado, I present to all of you, the unreal tracks that I’ve been listening to-

“That’s My Bitch” – Kanye West & Jay-Z

Music Mondays, Women Wednesdays, and Fresh Prince Fridays

This post will be short and sweet, but a little all over the place. Today, two tragic events happened: the death of Amy Winehouse, and the bombings in Norway. To all those affected by these events, especially in Norway where the estimated death toll is quite high, Thousand Years sends our condolences for these tragic events.

Amy Winehouse was found dead today in her home, and although not many details have been released, people are assuming that it has to do with her very public battles with her demons. Regardless of what you think of her habits or looks (i.e. signature pouf), you can’t deny that this little lady had a big voice and wrote songs that rang true. She had a beautiful timbre of voice, style reminiscent of soul legends, and she will be missed. RIP.

In Norway, a deranged man essentially blew up a bomb in a busy square and proceeded to go on a shooting spree at a youth camp. Many were killed, many were injured, and this tragic event has been dubbed the Oklahoma City Bombings of Norway (Google that if you don’t know). To the victims, RIP.

To end on a lighter note, I wanted to notify all of you of the changes that are coming to this blog. First off, our articles will begin to better reflect the lifestyle and image of our brand, by focusing more specifically on hip-hop culture and a little less on random things we like. Secondly, we will begin to have our own little series, and Top 5 lists from all the people at TYA. The week will look great for all you procrastinating at the office, because Mondays are Music Mondays (where we’ll be posting our own top tracks of the week), Wednesdays are Women Wednesdays (where Abi will balance out the testosterone of us other 5), and Fridays are the beloved Fresh Prince Fridays (where I will be posting just a couple keynote outfits from the series, with a little fashion analysis as to why it works or doesn’t work).

Check me out on Fridays!

Again, continue to get hyped up for our two drops, one on Tuesday and one on Sunday, where we’ll reveal our full Fall 2011 collection of a snapback, sweater, crewneck tee, vneck tee, ladies tee, and necklace/chain/accessory, all for your new Fall wardrobe. Be on the lookout for a fresh lookbook in August when we get all of our orders in, to show you how many ways you can rock Thousand Years Apparel.

P.S. We’re putting all of our own tags and labels onto our shirts and apparel from now on, but they’re not just any old tags and labels… Get excited 😉
