Welcome Blue Ivy Carter aka World’s Most Blessed Child

Last night Beyonce and Jay-Z gifted the world with a child, Blue Ivy Carter. I don’t know why I’m so hyped up about this, but I can’t help it. The talent that is in that baby’s genes… I can’t even.

Ever since Beyonce’s adorable VMA announcement,we’ve been following @beyoncejayfetus on Twitter to keep updated, you know, on what’s up in the womb. It’s actually hysterically funny, the wittiest fetus you’ll ever meet. Some choice examples:

“I get free in lullaby what you pay hundreds to see in concert.”
“Beyonce is my ride for the next few months. And yours is?”
“Hilary Duff’s fetus. #talkaboutawkward”

And post-birth, Beyonce/Jay Fetus has become @theHovaJr, equally hilarious.

“Suri…I can hear you crying…”

Some Things To Be Thankful For

We make more than just t-shirts...

Well ladies and gentlemen its that time of year once again. The leaves are turning, the campuses have emptied out and all across Canada people are  with their families to giving thanks. Here at the TYA family we’ve got a lot of reasons to be thankful. But easily the best news is that:

THE FALL 2011 LINE IS OFFICIAL RELEASED

As we speak the rest of the TYA crew is hard at work putting together the finishing touches on our newest designs. In case you’ve forgotten here’s what they look like:

Keep an eye out for one of us or send an order to thousandyearsltd@gmail.com if you want one of the designs.

Now I can’t speak for the rest of the TYA fam but to me, at least, this weekend means more than turkey and t-shirts. There’s a lot to be thankful and so I give to you….

MARK’S TOP 5 THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR THIS THANKSGIVING

NUMBER 5: NOT HAVING INTERNET

After Kevin,Shaq and I moved in we didn’t have internet for a couple weeks. At first none of us were very happy about it but after a little bit we began to accept our fate and realize that there’s more to life than facebook. For the important stuff we’d go to the library and the rest of the time we’d just entertain ourselves, hang out and enjoy having our own place.

NUMBER 4: HAVING INTERNET

But let’s be real here: I love the internet. Facebook is life. Getting it was like having the tingling sensation when your foot falls asleep finally going away. Its not like you’re in pain but it feels good once its over. Where else do you find this kinda thing:

NUMBER 3: ZIPPER FLIES

I don’t know if there’s a trend going on with pants and button flies but peeing is so much more enjoyable when you don’t have to fiddle with buttons before. When I find a nice pair of jeans with a good zipper fly I lock that shit down.

NUMBER 2: FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Being with family and good friends is what the holidays are all about, regardless of what the holiday is. I had the pleasure to spend thanksgiving with both:

The TYA Fam

Big Pimp Daddy

NUMBER ONE: SRIRACHA

Sweet. Spicy. Tangy. Sensual. These bold flavours amalgamating in your mouth in a perfect harmony of flavour and heat. It is sad how much of this I’ve been eating. At least once a day if not more. I’ve even used it as salad dressing. Cooking tip: try putting some in scrambled eggs before you cook it and after. Thank you, Sriracha.

So there you have it, a little something from our TYA family to yours. Happy Thanksgiving and Shona Tova if you’re into that kinda thing.

Love,

Mark and the rest of TYA

Retro 90’s: Will-inspired!

Alright you silly fools, we’re back and it’s FRESH PRINCE FRIDAY! We went on a temporary hiatus last week because of a sudden perceived lack of interest (still debating whether or not we should even have this column) but for now at least, I thought I might as well continue it for the sake of… continuity. Today we examine 4 fresh outfits from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (found in the episode The Lucky Charm) and figure out just why these crazy retro looks were even popular back in the day:

Even the jeans have a matching crotch patch... (the 'bartack')

Glorious retro colours (actually very much like the colours of the Thousand Years Fall collection) with F & P matching torn decals on his jeans, while sporting that flat-top (leather?) painter’s cap/pillbox style. This is OG status. Continue reading

Is Humour in Dance Acceptable?

I am a huge fan of America’s Best Dance Crew. I think watching the Jabbawockeez from Season 1 probably got me into dancing in the first place. But with all the publicity and the way the show’s marketed, I don’t want to use the word sell out, but it is certainly conducive to creating a style of dance less focused on technique and more focused on entertainment value.

Before I lay everything on the table I need a slight disclaimer. I’m gonna show a lot of clips from Poreotix and Quest Crew, and I just want people to know that I am NOT a hater. Quest Crew is too sick, probably my favourite group right now, and although I’m not as big a fan of Poreotix, I still recognize them as phenomenal dancers. However, they do a lot of silly things in their dances to create humour that I don’t quite agree with. I’d like to compare this to the way I feel about Mozart: I like and respect him as one of the greatest composers and musicians of all time, but it doesn’t make me a fan of his music. That being said, here comes the criticism.

There’s a short segment I want to highlight in Quest Crew’s choreography to “Forever” by Chris Brown. Skip to 1:55 look out for the hip-thrusting.

Watch The Throne Review

Welcome back to Music Monday Everyone,

As much as I would love to send you guys some variation of my fave genres (soca, dubstep, rap, and house), I couldn’t possibly mention anything other than the “historical” release of the album “Watch the Throne” by Jay-z and Kanye West.

Now I’m not much of a Jay-Z fan (in fact I’m quite the opposite), and though I respect Kanye’s work, cannot stand who he is as a person. I’ve always seen these two as the rap game’s most pretentious, and it has always frustrated me how people will jump on any of their tracks because of their name, and not the quality. They to me are a living exhibition of commercial America ruining music. Soulja Boy is a kid having fun, these are men truly selling out.

That all being said, there’s only one way I can truly describe this album. Swag.

Woman Wednesday: Fashionspiration

Woman Wednesday blog post #2! It’s only been a week, but I’m pretty much addicted to blogging. I’m fairly new to it myself, but I’ve been reading blogs for a long, long time–or as long as one can really imply when talking about the internet.  But anyway, I read a LOT of blogs.

And when I say a lot of blogs, I really do mean a lot. I read blogs/online publications on food, celeb gossip, culture, news, wedding design, interior design, politics, and beyond. And I haven’t even started on Tumblr pages yet…  It’s a little shameful (Or is it? Discuss in the comments, please.) that on a daily basis I probably read more online content than I do actual print media.

So today, I present a few of my favourites: my top 4 fashion blogs. These multitalented women are so stylish, take such lovely photos, and have such distinct personalities that they lure me back for more. Every. Single. Day. The amount of time I spend on these sites…I could write thousands of blog posts of my own if I wasn’t so hooked on theirs. In more TYA-esque terminology, they’ve got SWAG. Continue reading
